How to change a water pump 3.0 V6

Postby JorgeM3 - April 25th, 2011, 12:35 am

Hi I'm new.

i'm from Colombia and I have a Ford Escape 2008 3.0 V6 engine 4x4 with 60k miles.

and now I have a problem with the water pump, I need to change it. but i see the thread hear and say how, but from a water pump with tensioner, and my truck it's 3.0L (4V) it's without Tensioner... so I can't take it off two bolts because the pulley from the camshaf it's to near and now i need to take it off the pulley... but how?? I can take off the bolts from the water pump without take off the pulley? how?

Thanks a lot for your help, and Sorry about my english!!!. :wall:

Hola and welcome!
If your engine is the same V6 as in the Escape...
...You first unbolt the water pump assembly. There are three bolts there and they are all further inward which should be no problem to reach with a spanner.
After you take the assembly off, you unscrew the water pump bolts and take it off the assembly.Make sure you use a new gasket and a new belt when you put everything back on.
Good luck.

I don't have time to get the full write-up posted just yet, but the pulley has to be removed to reach those bolts.
The goggles, they do nothing!

Canada Panda is right.
After looking at the pictures I realized that Ford has changed the position of the pulley and instead of taking motion from the intake valves cam as in the earlier Escapes it takes it from the Exhaust valves cam. That shifting makes it necessary for the pulley to come out in order to reach all the bolts of the water pump, unlike what was happenning with the older V6s.
Thank you both for the education.

PS.What do you cal a rim in colombian?
