Overhead Console

Postby Arc2519 - September 8th, 2012, 11:46 pm

So, is it me, or does the Fusion overhead consoles look almost exactly like the Escape ones? The only difference I see is the Fusion's version has a cubby instead of a named sunglasses compartment.

I wonder if I can use one of these in my Escape? The clip on my sunglasses holder has broken, AGAIN, and the door is just dangling in place. The design of the cubby door seems to be better than the Escape one.

The "cubby" is still a sunglasses compartment. I believe the interior mounting points are a little different. You'll know if they're the same if the part numbers are identical.

I wish they had updated the overhead console to be a little more modern with the 08-12 Escape but that was a little too much to ask for

Well, they have 519A70 in common, but the remaining sections of the part numbers are different. Bummer.

Fusion: 7Z-54519A70-BC
Escape: 8Z-78519A70-EAB

Too bad I can't install one from an 08 or 09. Would love to get a black one. :D

Edit**

Holy crap, I think I might be able to. The last 3 of the '11 ones are different, but everything else is the same.

TBH, I don't feel like the overhead console is any different from 2001 to 2012. I would be surprised if they were different.

519A70 is the base part number for an overhead console. Every vehicle will have that number.

That doesn't look like the escape overhead console. First the escape overhad console has 2 cubbies and no map lights. For some reason ford put the map lights in the same module as the overhead door lights, kinda stupid if yo ask me. The map lights light up the whole cabin, and are behind the passenger so they are looking at "maps" in their own shadow!!

Maybe I'll get one and find out. They all take the same bulbs, though!

How do I remove the overhead console? I removed the two screws but its still hanging there flush against the headliner. Wiggling it around does nothing. Do I need to remove the lights, too?? What am I missing?

Thanks!

There's a small rectangular hole at the front, inside the glasses compartment - you need to get a flat-blade screwdriver in there to release a tang on the molding. Once you have that released lower it slightly then remove towards the windscreen, releasing 2 rear tangs that slip above the headlining.

The pics of the console at the start of this thread are almost identical to my '02 Maverick - 2 map lights, glasses compartment and no door/cabin light - so they definitely look interchangeable to me.
