I have a 2008 Limited and the button to open the rear liftgate doesn't work. I can still open the glass but that's it. Is there anything I can do short of taking off (and almost certainly breaking in the process) the interior panel to get the gate open? Thanks all
Ok I managed to get the panel off with the gate closed, I worked installing steros and starters for 2 years and really didn't think that was going to happen. Does anyone have a link to a wiring diagram? I plan now to install a new actuator (if that is indeed the problem) but I metered the wires, green has about 7V on it all the time, even when I hit the switch. Black doesn't ground when I hit the switch either.
Have the same vehicle and had the same problem. With mine the switch on the tailgate for operating the liftgate had water and crud in it and had shorted out which resulted in the hatch actuator no longer cycling. You can easily test for this problem by disconnecting the harness either coming into the liftgate (now that you have the panel off) or by removing the screws that hold on the panel containg the switches and license plate light and pulling the plug going to the liftgate switch and reconnecting it. If the switch is shorted the actuator will cycle every time you do that. Ford had a repair kit which included both the switch and the plug going to the switch as both get pretty corroded.
