it is now a official recall notice
but not 2005
the recall conforms to the years 2007 to 2009 possibly extending to the years 2010 and 2011 of escapes

defective circuit board installed inside the throttle position sensor
circuit board failure incites engine LIMP HOME MODE

I can't find news of this. All I've read is the investigation.

I really hope that this goes through as a mandatory recall, I had to spend 3-4 days away from work so that my service adviser could have the mechanic drive around and burn up half a tank of gas on me with the OBD reader hooked up to try and recreate the problem, despite the fact I told him exactly what it was. In the end it turns out it was the throttle control actuator getting stuck open causing the engine to say in idle no matter how hard I hit the gas. Alas it turns out that this problem was not covered under any warranty or service plan, and cost me $700 alone to get it fixed. Save your receipts people if you had this problem and paid for it to be fixed, if a recall is issued you may be entitled to compensation. Also if you have had this problem occur in any aspect there is a number and an online page of the NHTSA site to report it, the more complaints they receive the better their case to force a recall is.

After having my car literally die on the California freeway (and it happened 3 other times around town) found out I need a new Electronic Throttle Body for my 2010 Ford Escape. Part is on back order 3-4 weeks-dealer told me since it was really dangerous, not to drive the car till the part was replaced!!! (good if you have 2 cars) !!

Has anyone else heard anything about a recall for this issue? I pulled onto a highway today and almost got rear ended when my 2010 Escape went into "limp mode". I instantly pulled off the highway and restarted and it ran fine.

...and btw , I am new here. Found this forum while googling troubleshooting tips for my issue :hi:

Welcome to the forum!

Have you been to your dealer to have this concern diagnosed? Please let me know when you make an appointment, along with your mileage, so I can check into some options.

My sister's 10' escape 3.0 had a throttle sticking problem a few days ago @65mph on a bridge with no shoulder to pull over. Really freaked her out. She says wrench light came on then lost power and no throttle response, engine did not shut off though. She had to wait for a Caltrans truck to push her off bridge in heavy commute traffic. Had car towed to her house.

Sure enough that night I scanned it and came up with codes P2111 and P0685. After taking a look at the throttle body there was noticeable carbon buildup on butterfly and throttle bore. I gave the throttle bore and blade a good spray with seafoam spray(the BEST throttle cleaner In my experience) ,rubbed in, brushed, resprayed, soaked and wiped clean. After that I cleared codes, let car warm up and idle then test drove at different speeds and throttle from 5-10mph to 55mph for 15 min while monitoring data stream. No codes, no pending codes, no abnormal sensor data. She's been driving it since then for three days with no problems so I'm gonna chalk it up to carbon buildup on throttle blade and bore binding the throttle. I'll update if the problem returns. Hope this helps someone.

Ford issued a new TSB dated NOVEMBER 13 2013 related to throttle body and code p2111:

TSB #ASI-32332

NHTSA ID #10053656
Date Announced:NOVEMBER 13 2013

Summary: FORD: DUE TO AN INTERMITTENT LOSS OF RPM OR LACK OF ACCELERATION, IN SOME VEHICLES, WITH ILLUMINATED WRENCH LIGHT, DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) P2111, P2112 MAY OR MAY NOT BE STORED IN POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM). MODELS 2009-12 ES

If any body could post this tsb with repair procedure I would love to see what ford is recommending repair wise for this latest throttle body related tsb. It Most likely just calls for replacement of throttle body assembly, but I'm just curious. My sisters car is rather high mileage @89,000 mi for a 10' model so my case might be unique because of that. Also her escape build date is December 09', so it has the "improved/updated' throttle body circuit board.

I had a couple issues with this and with it seeming to hesitate, then just go all of a sudden. Since I was coming up to my 36,000 mile mark I told them about it at my oil change and made an appointment to come in and get it looked at. They changed the throttle body (at least I think that is what they said) and I was just under the wire on my warranty so it didn't cost me a cent. Yeah! I still LOVE my 2011 Limited and wish wish wish Ford had not gone with the new and horrible (IMHO) body design.

This problem occurred 1 time on my '09 Escape and it was probably 2 years ago. It happened while trying to merge onto a freeway. No response from the pedal for a few seconds. This could have ended very badly.

--I just posted this on 'anything goes'....

--Got a letter from Ford today(1/30/2014) extending the warranty on Throttle Body for ten years or 150,000 miles. The Throttle Body may have to be replaced if the little light* comes on.
Also, the vehicle may enter a Failure Mode affecting the engine power, power steering, power braking, lights & climate control. There also will be an update on the powertrain calibration this spring.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if I should be looking for the same letter.

My throttle body went kaput on the drive home for Christmas, had it replaced while I was there to the tune of $460 for parts and labor. Barely outside of my bumper to bumper and this is the ONLY part of the power train not covered under my ExtraCare ESP.

On the back of the letter it says that if you've already had to replace it, you may be eligible for a refund for parts and labor related ONLY to the Throttle Body. It says: to verify eligibility and expedite reimbursement to give the original paid receipt to the dealer before July 31st, 2014.

Unfortunately the Ford dealer that did the work is 200 miles away... Options? Or do I just have to wait until Spring break when I drive home again.

Here's the letter for those interested/affected:

I received the above letter on Monday. I also received a different letter offering me the extended warranty before I hit 36,000 miles. Of course I'd have to pay for it because I declined it when I bought the vehicle. Perhaps this is a sign I should buy the extended warranty.

I also received this letter. I already the throttle body replaced about a year ago. There was not then nor is there now a wrench light, but previously the dealer said there was an error code. Should I take it back in, or if they find a code and there is no light will I have to pay for a second throttle body?

Also, does anyone know about this software changed discussed in the second part of the letter?

Same letter came in our mail while we were on holidays. I replaced the TB in May after having a couple of occasions of the wrench light coming on while driving and losing all throttle response, once while on a major hwy through the city. Fortunately it was late at night and there was minimal traffic. I have to take the vehicle in for some further work (stabilizer links, a couple of filters, etc). If possible, I'll apply any refund for the TB replacement to this work that needs to be done. Hopefully it will be easier than processing a refund and having to cut a cheque. But we'll see.

I have to wonder if Ford is sending out the letters to avoid calling a recall. I guess it's a cheaper route to go. Can they still have a recall, even though they've addressed the issue?
