There is a piece of box tubing (3 sided) behind the bumper run horizontally almost perfectly behind the front license plate holder. Drilling through the plastic bumper and through this will give you a solid mounting point. It is fairly easy to get a hand up there to thread the nuts and tighten them down with a ratchet.

I was thinking more on the lower grill beneath the license plate. I've seen it done by many on here I just can't figure out how they did it hahaha

I have 2nd gen with light bar located in the spot you were talking about. Someone with 1st gen was attempting it but they were running into fitment issues. Not sure how it worked out.

Fellow Escape owners! here are a few photos of how i mounted my 22' Curved LED light bar behind my front cover onto my bumper bar. You will have to trim the bumper to make it fit and mount to bumper bar.

i mounted mine to the bottom of the bumper from the inside of the grill. 14" dual light bar
