so i really want to change up the front of my escape. i really like the looks of the billet grills for the front grill and bumper, but dont really have the money for that now since i had to mail in a $173 gift certificate to that nice state trooper that stopped me to congratulate me on my speed. i felt that was nice of him so im mailing him that gift certificate :cuss: :censor:

anyways im looking at buying a piece of stainless steel mesh and removing the fins off the grill and placing this behind the chrome bars in place of them. and then mounting a piece behind the bumper holes. what do you guys think? and anyone have a clue where i can get this mesh at? i found a place online and it looks like shipped i can get a piece to do this w/ for like $40...but would prefer to just go buy a sheet. i know they make a kit like this but like i said...but its $200 which is in the form of a gift certificate right now and it goes over everything.

let me revise my previous statement as i just got excited. i was taking a little study break here at my brothers shop...and noticed he had several large sheets of this mesh up on a shelf. so as long as i can convince him to give me some of it this mod will be completed much sooner than expected. :woohoo:

i know the fins is one solid piece...i just have to figure out how to mount the mesh on the grill and bumper. i know the kits mount in front of the holes in the bumper and i was gonna mount behind. so well see how it goes. he told me to help myself to the mesh, and i bought some clear gloss spray paint today. i have to stay focused on studying right now to tear it all apart, but stuff like this is good study breaks for me. so maybe i can maybe just get the grill done then do the bumper next week after my test since itll have to come off. the grill is 4 bolts...so not very time consuming. ill post up progress and if anyone has ideas of how to fasten and mount this stuff help me out here. i love free mods

so just removing the fins isnt as easy as i thought. once you pull the grill off, the fins are attached to the whole inside of the grill including the top to mounting bolts. so its either add mesh to the front side, or individually cut all the fins off. the bumper isnt that big of a deal to add mesh to. so i guess ill have to do a little bit more brainstorming, im not really wanting to destroy the grill just yet. or i may just have to get myself the billet grills later for a b-day present. speaking of which...those who have installed them, how do they mount?
