If you have connectors near the plastic caps, you could install the factory fog lamps by just plugging them in, and then by changing your headlight switch to the switch that has fog lamp control (the '08 and newer models have Ford's Edge/Fusion/F-150 headlight switch).

anyone find out whether or not the vehicles with the crummy black plastic covers actually have a plug and/or mounting bracket for fog lights in place?

i'm getting ready to install fogs in an '09, and while I won't be using the stock switch and wiring (I want the fogs to function independently of the headlights), it sure would be nice if the mounting itself was a walk in the park. I'm not even entirely sure how to get to the back of the bumper to pull the covers out; do I just need to pull the plastic fender-well panels or do I need to drop the bumper?

you can do it without doing either. those black fog light hole covers have three 10mm nuts on the back holding them in and i just used a socket w/o the wratchet to remove mine. there are then 3 holes. i purchased a set of 4" fog lamps from autozone that includes the relay, fuse, ect. only thing you will need is some more wire for grounding the lights. as far as mounting them, its tricky and you cant use the supplied bracket. well i couldnt figure out how. what i did was buy a roll of that band strapping that has a hole ever 1.5" or so, 4-1/4" bolts w/ the nuts that have the plastic in them so they wont come off, some regular sized 1/4" washers and 4-1/4" fender washers. and basically you put a piece of the strapping on each side of the fog lamp and use one of the holes that is there and then there is a piece of metal behind that in which you use the fender washers and stretch the strapping to and bolt to. the straps will pretty much cross each other. this was just how i did it and if i can get a pict of the back side ill try to. i know all of this sounds confusing but it wasnt too bad. this was the easiest and most secure way i could figure out. you may come up w/ something better. good luck

i'm impressed you were able to get to the back of the black plastic covers without removing anything - that's really sweet. i will have to take a closer look.

how much did you pay for the fogs at autozone? i was looking at a set on ebay. i'm mostly concerned with additional lighting as opposed to aesthetics, i routinely drive late at night in super-rural areas of Arkansas where the roads are very winding and there seem to be dogs, chickens, deer, etc in the road behind every turn and over every hill.

when i'm done with my amp install and get around to a fog install, i'll take pics for sure. i don't think i'm going to buy the OEM fog lamp / headlight switch assembly, because i'd like to wire the lights to function independently of the headlights so I can also use them as a daytime running light of sorts (and so i can use them in conjunction with the high beams in the aforementioned "middle of nowhere" driving situations).

they were 39.99 plus tax at autozone. which comes w/ the fuse and relay...if you are running them separate. if for some reason you want to use a factory switch...i have one that has the fog lamp option to it im trying to sell and i can tell you have to incorporate them into the switch since ive had to do some deep research on this topic (with some help from jpark). ill post picts of them as soon as i get my power wire ran so i can show them on and ill try to snap a pict of my custom bracket fabrications. good luck and let me know if i can be of assistance to you
