I have an 09 Escape XLT and the speakers stopped working. The OEM stereo would turn on and display and appear to work as it should. The only caveat, no sound from ANY speaker. I took out the oem system and replaced with an aftermarket system and STILL no sound. Any ideas? Is there an amp somewhere in line that may have failed? I don’t have a subwoofer so I figure the only amp is in the head unit but idk.

If the original was a "premium" sound package, the head unit definitely uses an external amplifier. I hope it wasn't just a blown fuse for that.. I don't know if the base radios used an external amp.

EDIT:

This ebay listing for a power amp shows it fits the 2009 Escape without the NAV system, so maybe all the radios that year are using an external amp.

Other than that, you can get a wiring diagram and "ring out" the speaker lines. I don't know how four speakers would go out all at once. A common amp makes the most sense.

In an XLT the single CD OEM 4 speaker doesn't have an external amp/dsp, but the 6 CD/7 speaker Audiophile optional system uses external amps.
