LOSS OF POWER DUE TO SPEED LIMITER MALFUNCTION
BULLETIN NOTE
This bulletin supersedes 01-020/02, issued 07/15/02. The REPAIR PROCEDURE has been changed.
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
2001 Tribute 2.0L with VINs lower than 4F2*U0*B*1KM52163.
DESCRIPTION
In some cases, the vehicle speed limiter may be activated while driving at speeds exceeding 75+ mph. The vehicle may lose power and when returning to idle, engine may run rough. MIL light may be ON or OFF and DTC P1270 may also be stored. If ignition key is cycled and the engine re-started, engine runs normally and no rough idle condition is present.
Due to an improper calibration, the speed limiter may be activated when an electronic noise is transmitted to the PCM.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Perform the WDS "Module Reprogramming" procedure and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module with the latest calibration using WDS B19 or later software. For this procedure, refer to Service Bulletin 01-010/01R" Charging System Warning Lamp "ON" During Cold Temperatures".
3. Install revised PCM calibration sticker (P/N 9999-95-AMDC 97 available through MStore) in appropriate position (next to vehicle emissions label) with the calibration P/N provided in CALIBRATION INFORMATION.
4. Verify repair.
CALIBRATION INFORMATION
New PCM Calibration Part Number is 1U7A-12A650-ANA. File name is DVAN92U.
NOTE:
WDS shows the (calibration part number) after programming the PCM.
