The noise started after hitting 3 pothole in a row a few inches apart like 5mph (dirt not pavement) - The control arms looked original and were shot so had them replaced. I then installed the stabilizing bars and struts myself. The noise is still there. Its subtle, more like a creaking sound. I notice it when taking off from a dead stop, if Im doing like 10mph and turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth you hear it, and going of minor bumps, same noise, creaking. It doesn't make the sound turning the steering wheel back and forth at a dead stop. The steering wheel seems a bit more stiff after the control arms were put on Thought it was the struts, maybye the upper mounts but replacing them ruled that out. From what I can see the outer tire rod bushings look good. Not much else I can think of other than the subframe or sway bar bushing. Even though I replaces the struts, control arms, stabilizing bars I still feel the truck is not fully stable on the highway when windy are having to make a quick maneuver.
I read about this issue from others but they never found the problem. Any help would be appreciate, what to check for etc..
NOTE: For those putting struts in, make sure you line up the notches on the new strut mount plate the same as the old ones, it makes a big difference. With mine one notch was facing inward and the other outward, the new ones were both facing out and at the time I could only find one video mentioning this but no reason why. I put them in the way I got them and the steering wheel was off and it made a noise even without hitting bumps, just slight road imperfections. It has something to do with the camber so I turned the plate mount to face in on the one strut and it fixed the issue. what blows my mind is this isnt mentioned anywhere, even the guy at Monroe didnt know what the notch on the strut plate was for.
