2005 Escape, the 4wd light blinks non stop and i have no 4wd. The ABS light is Not on. If the truck sits for 20 min or so it goes out but the next time the front wheels spin the light starts blinking again. Any common problems? Thanks for the help
This is out of the owners manual.
Four wheel drive indicator (if equipped): Illuminates when ignition is first turned ON to check
bulb. Solid illumination indicates 4WD system is in the heat protection mode. Blinking indicator every few minutes indicates the system has been disabled and requires service.
I found my Tribute has this ever so often. I get the ABS and 4WD light to flash. I suspect the ABS tone/sensor rings get dirty causing the light to flash, but the problem goes away.
Check to see if maybe you have ice or snow built up in your wheels. I know it's cold in my of the nation.
hope you don't call this stealing. I just experience the ABS and 4X4 flashing on my 2005 Escape XLT V6. No codes were found. I checked the brake fluid and it was low. I can see this being casue for ABS light but why the 4X4 flashing light? It the 4X4 disabled when ABS fails?
What I have found from reading post is that it's the tone ring or sensor when ABS light is on and 4X4 light flashes. Most common is a tone ring. Guess I will look at mine tomorrow.
Have the same problem with my 2005 Escape that I discovered last night during a snowstorm that dumped a foot of snow in our area. My son came home from work with two co-workers looking for a ride home since I have a 4x4. Ended up getting stuck in snow with the 4wd light blinking continuously and no 4wd!! Luckily a snow plough came through and it was downhill all the way home. Had no idea what to do to fix it. Happened a week ago also on some ice. Wheels spin, light comes on. :cuss:
Curious if anyone has found out what was causing the 4wd to suddenly become disabled??
Today I experienced the same thing on my '07 XLT V6. ABS light comes on and the 4WD light blinks 6 times every minute. It did it at highway speeds after a couple minutes. If I turn off the ignition for a while, it goes away until I get on the highway again.
What is a Tone Ring? Nevermind, I found the article from camusdarrach on how to replace it.
It's strange that it would only fail on the highway though...
I had both of my half-shafts and front tone rings replaced this month. My ABS light would flash a couple of times during some but not all braking. It was more evident during the early AM hours after a cold start.
