HIGH STEERING EFFORTS IN COLD AMBIENT
TEMPERATURES - VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO
2/15/2005

FORD:
2005 Escape Hybrid

ISSUE
Some 2005 Escape Hybrids built prior to 2/15/2005, may intermittently exhibit high steering effort when the vehicle is started in cold weather. This condition may be accompanied by the service engine soon lamp (wrench icon) illuminating and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) C1778 stored in the power steering control (PSC) module.

ACTION
Replace the PSC module with an updated module containing revised software. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 211-02.
