What is located directly under the battery that could be smoking/letting off lots of steam?

Under the battery it's mostly the transmission. There are also coolant lines, trans cooler lines, and lots of wiring. What kind of smoke are we talking about? Color, smell, etc. How are your fluid levels doing? Any signs of fluid leaks?

Just changed out the water pump, thermostat, etc. Well I do not know if it was smoke, seamed a little like lots of white steam, it was coming from below the battery but escaping from the front right of the battery by a black case? Damn I feel dumb! My transmission is slipping, and when I stop and then try to proceed forward its like a jolt.

The steam prob just residual coolant that dripped when changing thermostat and pump.If it persists try taking out battery and cleaning up any coolant or see if anyhting leaking...

Check tranny fluid and drain and fill if dirty or add if low..

Directly underneath the battery on my 07 is a rather largish electrical connector that is held in contact with a bolt through the middle. It has the power feed from the battery/starter going through it. You may have doused it with anti-freeze, and it is evaporating that. It would only do that if it got hot... which would indicate a poor connection. You can get corrosion there if your battery has drizzled acid {mine did, onto the frame rail, the battery holder bracket, and the front cover of the transmission} which can cause unseen damage, poor connection as noted, and heat, along with loss of power to just about all the systems in the car... I took mine apart, and cleaned it with a baking soda and water solution to neutralize the acid, ditto to the frame, wire brushed and primed/painted the battery holder bracket & bolts, had to replace the battery holder bolts {three out of four were corroded to nubs}, and then clean & wipe all around with soda solution soaked rag then rinse with fresh water. So far, so good...

I just noticed your other thread here... http://www.escape-city.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13240. I think these may be related. If the internal trans cooler in the radiator is leaking, you're getting coolant in the transmission (as tomw pointed out, there is a pressure difference between the radiator and the trans cooler lines). I'm not sure where the transmission vent tube exits on the 2005, but you may be seeing coolant boiling off from inside the transmission. You need to check your trans fluid now and see what it looks like. If there is coolant getting into the trans, you need to get that radiator replaced and the transmission flushed before you start or drive the truck again. As tomw mentioned, coolant can do serious damage to the internals of your transmission. If it was mine, I'd get it towed to the dealer (or replace the rad and flush the trans myself) before doing anything else.

From what I remember, there is a rubber tube leading from the transmission up to a 'holder' that is attached to the bottom, well, near, of the throttle body. I think it is the vent, with its opening positioned up and out of the way from road splash. If it were venting radiator coolant vapor, it would come up on the left end of the cold air intake, directly underneath the 'beginning' of the throttle body.
