2006 TRIBUTE
TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) INDICATOR LIGHT ON - TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR TRAINING PROCEDURE
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006 Tribute vehicles equipped with Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
DESCRIPTION
Mid-year 2006 Tribute models are equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The TPMS consists of a tire pressure sensor strapped inside each wheel, a Smart Junction Box (SJB) which monitors tire pressure, and the Instrument Cluster (IC) which illuminates the TPMS indicator light.
After replacing a TPMS sensor, the TPMS indicator light flashes, or is on continuously when the ignition is turned ON. These DTCs may be stored: B106A, B106B, B2477, B2868, B2869, B2870, B2871, B2872, C2780.
After replacement, TPMS sensors must be trained to be recognized by the SJB. The "Tire Pressure Monitor Test Tool" (SST 204-363-TPMS) is available to train new TPMS sensors.
NOTE:
If one (1) TPMS sensor is replaced, all four (4) sensors must be trained with the SST If it becomes necessary to replace the Smart Junction Box (SJB), all four (4) TPMS sensors will need to be retrained with the SST. If the SJB is replaced without completing PMI, DTC B2477 will be set. Contact Technical Assistance Hotline for SJB As-Built Data, which must be entered BEFORE training TPMS sensors.
TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR TEST TOOL TPMS INDICATOR LIGHTS

Slow Flashing Green LED: Tool is transmitting signal to TPMS sensor.
Rapid Flashing Green LED w/ Audible Tone: Tool is receiving from TPMS sensor.
Solid Green LED: Tool is in "repeat" mode and will allow the same type of sensor to be trained without pressing the test button again.
While holding tool against tire, press and release the "TEST" button to train the new TPMS wheel sensor.
TPMS TRAINING PROCEDURE
1. Inflate tire to recommended tire pressure.
NOTE
Pressure changes 1 PSI for every 10 degree Fahrenheit (6 degree Celsius) change in ambient temperature.

2. Wait two (2) minutes to allow new TPMS sensor to wake-up.
3. Turn ignition ON, then OFF.
4. Press and release brake pedal.
5. Turn ignition from OFF to ON three (3) times (ending in ON)
NOTE:
Perform key cycles within sixty (60) seconds.
6. Press and release brake pedal.
7. Turn ignition OFF.
8. Turn ignition from OFF to ON three (3) times (ending in ON)
NOTE:
Perform key cycles within sixty (60) seconds.
9. Horn will sound once and the TPMS indicator will flash when the training mode has been entered successfully.
10. At LF tire, hold SST against tire side wall 180 degrees opposite of valve stem.

11. Press and release "TEST" button.
^ If TPMS sensor has been trained, the horn will sound one (1) time.
^ Proceed to Step 12 and perform it in less than two (2) minutes.
^ If TPMS sensor has not been trained, roll the vehicle 1/4 wheel rotation and repeat Steps 10 - 11.

12. Repeat Steps 10 - 11 on other wheels in this order: RF, RR, LR.
If TPMS sensors were successfully trained, the TPMS light will go out.
13. Turn ignition OFF.
^ If TPMS sensors were successfully trained, the horn will not sound.
^ If TPMS sensors were not successfully trained, the horn will sound two (2) times. If this occurs, repeat Steps 3 - 13.
14. Run "ON DEMAND SELF TEST" on SJB and erase any DTCs.
