(If your concerned about the mileage of the car have a look at this article on the ford escape hybrid....same as the mariner internally)http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/04/ford-escape-hybrid-taxis-demonstrate-durability-on-new-york-stre/

"Other things to keep in mind about Hybrid electric vehicles are that they do not use components that are often the reason for breakdowns and early replacements, such as a starter motor and solenoid, an alternator, a clutch and several other parts. Also the regenerative breaking can reduce wear on the brake calipers and many Hybrid vehicles still have their original OEM brakes without ever needing replacement due to this, even after 6 or more years of operation and more than 100,000 miles. Also the 12V battery is not used to start the engine, so the life of this battery is longer due to the lower demands on its capacity. These and many other factors can contribute to lower maintenance costs and resulting faster break-even of a Hybrid car."

THINGS TO KNOW:

NO! You don't have to plug it in. They Hybrid has several methods of recharging itself including when braking.

No! You don not have to flip a switch to turn the hybrid feature off and on. It seamlessly switches back and for from hybrid mode by itself, depending on driving conditions, acceleration, and driving habits.

Yes! This is a full Hybrid. Most hybrids are not. The difference is most hybrids run off of gas alone, and can be assisted by electric at the same time, However it cannot run on electric solely by itself (not full Hybrid).

The ESCAPE HYBRID however can run off of solely gas alone, be assists by electric, and run solely off of the electric motor.
When you are driving less than 25mph, it will seamlessly switch over to hybrid mode running solely on the electric motor if charge properly. This allows you to have better gas mileage in town rather than on the highway. Why? Because you are not using gas, you are running on the electric motor.
