3.0L - SPARK KNOCK, HARD START AND/OR
HESITATION - BUILT BEFORE 9/19/2006

ISSUE
Some 2007 Escape and Mariner vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine and built before 9/19/2006 may exhibit a light spark knock (detonation) at 1500-2,500 RPM when operating in hot ambient temperatures. Some vehicles may also exhibit a hard start condition with a cold or hot engine and/or a hesitation on acceleration immediately after the engine is first started (cold or hot).
ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 45.8 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the 2006.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage And Emissions Warranty Coverage
