2007 Escape
ISSUE
Some 2006-2007 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.3L engines and MTX-75 manual transaxles and 2007 Escape vehicles equipped with 2.3L engines and manual transaxles may exhibit an intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on or flashing with multiple misfire diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0316, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, or P0304 present in the powertrain control module (PCM) with or without associated drivability symptoms. This concern may be due to the PCM ignition profile being set incorrectly.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release B43.16 and higher or B44.8 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the B44 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
2. Set the PCM ignition profile by driving the vehicle and performing three (3) consecutive decelerations from 60 to 40 MPH (96 to 64 KM/H) without applying the brakes.
3. If P0316, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, or P0304 DTCs reoccur after reprogramming the PCM and setting the PCM ignition profile then refer to the Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for diagnostics.
