CLOTH SEAT STAINS WITH WHITE RING OUTLINE -
BUILT ON OR BEFORE 5/14/2009 - (EXCLUDES XLS)

FORD:
2008-2009 Escape Hybrid, Escape

ISSUE:
Some 2008-2009 Escape and Escape Hybrid vehicles (excludes Mariner) equipped with Cloth seats (excludes XLS) and built on or before 5/14/2009, may exhibit stains with a white ring outline around them. An updated seat cover is now available to reduce this specific type of staining.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Inspect the seat cover stain for a white ring outline.

If the white ring stain is present, then replace the seat cover with latest level part. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-10 Seating Disassembly and Assembly.

NOTE: ONLY APPLIES TO STAINS WITH WHITE RING OUTLINE. REFER TO WARRANTY AND POLICY MANUAL FOR ANY OTHER TYPE OF SEAT COVER STAINS.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. I plan on pursuing it with the dealer after I get my car back from being repaired from some wind damage. I think the angle I'm going to take is that it is a warranty issue. Let me know how you make out, I shall do the same.

i will be, what happend was, i had a ring going down a seat, so i started to clean it, so it end up turning all white, and this is before i knew about the TSB. so i took it to the dealer and they said we are looking for a white ring not a white spot. so they said no. so what i did was i got my seats cleaned to being perfect so when the ring comes back, that will be the only thing on the seats

I contacted my dealership and they wanted to clean my seats first. I told them that i expect the stains would come back, but they said that the first step should be steam cleaning. Since it was complimentary, I'm game but i expect this will not be the solution.

THIS QUESTION IF FOR ANYONE THAT HAS ALOT OF DEALERSHIP KNOWLEDGE, (perhaps JPARK, SQUISHY, etc.....)

If there is a TSB, dont the dealerships get this info? And if so are they supposed to follow what is says? As in the solution part that was posted, it gave a clear solution to the problem. Cant we go to the dealership and lay down as if wwe were fighting a ticket, like taking a certain peice of law and showing it to the judge? I hope this makes sense. Alot of times these TSB come up and the dealership always seems to fight..... small vent complete...... :cuss:

OK, went to the dealership and talked to them about the "WHITE RING of death." I have to say they were a little stand-offish when I approached them about "the recall" as I called it. And as soon as I called it a TSB they knew I had some clue of what I was talking about. And at that point they hopped on the computer and searched for all TSB's for the ESCAPE. Sure enough they found it. HOWEVER, when we went to go look at the damage, they would only cover the seat that had the white stain, which was the 60 of the 60/40 part of the seat. I asked to get the other but they wouldnt budge until they see a stain on the other seat. So a stain they will see, soon.

POINT BEING: Go in to the dealership and demand that they look up the TSB for your issue.

THANKS SQUISHY and anoyone else that may POST TSB's

TSBs under the warranty period are honored as warranty repairs. Once you pass 36k or three years... you're :censor: ed!

Since it's a TSB, the money comes out of your pocket.

Complimentary cleaning? I'm game!

Paying for replacement seat covers? Um, not so much.

I plan on wearing this thing out by driving it. I'm not going to sit outside the thing and admire the fabric ;-| . Know what I mean?

As far as I'm concerned a tsb or recall is admission of a factory defect whether is be physical or programming. I think it's BS that car companies get away with not being responsible this type of stuff for the life of th vehicle. Companies just don't want to stand by their products anymore because they are greedy. It's a shame.

I have the 2009 SAP escape and I had this issue and had no problem at the dealership when I went in last year.

I got ALL NEW seat including back bench, and they are the nicest seats EVER!!!

Dont let them try to Puck you over.. THEY HAVE TO FIX IT!

And yes, I only had white ring stains on my passanger seat, Might of helped I cut/sliced the drivers seat in just the right place(If you google most common area for seats to tear, it will help you;) and they were forced to give me new ones under warranty as they looked to be a defective unit!!!

I know my seats are pretty bad with this problem. I take my dog with me every now and then and tends to drool a bit. Tinniest bit of drool on the seat and the rings appear, or when i get something else wet wise on them. Thankfully my car is being traded in for my new 2013 soon. SO it will be up to them on what they want to do with them :D
