2008 TRIBUTE 3.0L - ENGINE GRINDING/RATTLING NOISE AT IDLE

2008 Tribute 3.0L

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a grinding or rattling noise while the engine is running. The noise is most noticeable at idle.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.

2. Verify vehicle build date.

3. Record customer's preset radio stations.

4. Remove starter according to Workshop Manual (section 01-19 STARTER MOTOR - 3.0L REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).

5. Inspect starter drive for loose washers and/or snap ring not seated in shaft groove. If found, replace starter according to Workshop Manual (section 01-19 STARTER MOTOR - 3.0L REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION).

6. Re-enter customer's preset radio stations.

7. Verify repair.

CD4E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - FLUID LEAK FROM TRANSMISSION COOLER

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
2008 Tribute vehicles equipped with a CD4E automatic transmission built before Feb. 18, 2008
(Service Bulletin is not applicable to Tribute Hybrid)

DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a fluid leak from the transmission cooler. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
PERFORMING THIS SERVICE BULLETIN WILL PREVENT REPEAT TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER FAILURE. THE UPDATED SERVICE BOLT ELIMINATES STRESS ON THE COOLER FROM THERMAL EXPANSION.

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Remove the transmission cooler/A/C condenser according to the Workshop Manual (section 07-11 CONDENSER CORE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
NOTE:
The transmission cooler is part of the A/C condenser assembly and cannot be serviced separately.

3. When installing the new transmission cooler, install the updated service bolt on the passenger side of the cooler, opposite the inlet and outlet cooler tubes.
Tightening Torque: 55 lb-in (6.2 Nm)

CAUTION:
USING ANY BOLT OTHER THAN THE UPDATED SERVICE BOLT MAY CAUSE TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER ASSEMBLY FAILURE.

4. Install the transmission cooler/A/C condenser according to the Workshop Manual (section 07-11 CONDENSER CORE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

5. Install the driver side transmission fluid cooler/A/C condenser bolt.
Tightening Torque: 62 lb-in (8 Nm)

6. Verify repair.
