CD4E TRANSAXLE FLUID WEEP - TRANSMISSION
COOLER LINE

FORD:
2008 Escape

MERCURY:
2008 Mariner

ISSUE
Some 2008 Escape and Mariner vehicles equipped with a CD4E transaxle and built before 03/01/2007 may exhibit transmission fluid weeping from the cooler line next to the hose clamp (constant tension spring type clamp).

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Check that the cooler line rubber hose is fully installed on the steel cooler line at the transaxle by pushing the rubber hose to the stop bead but do not push it beyond the stop bead. (Figure 1)


2. Add one (1) additional new hose clamp (screw type) next to the original hose clamp and tighten to 28 lb-in (3.2 N.m). (Figure 1)

3. Check transaxle fluid level.

2008 TRIBUTE - CD4E TRANSAXLE FLUID WEEP FROM TRANSAXLE OIL COOLER LINE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2008 Tribute vehicles equipped with a CD4E transaxle built before March 1, 2007

DESCRIPTION
Some Tribute vehicles equipped with a CD4E transaxle may have transaxle fluid weeping from the transaxle cooler line next to the hose clamp (constant tension spring type clamp).

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.

2. Check cooler line rubber hose is fully installed by pushing rubber hose to stop bead. Do not push rubber hose beyond stop bead.


3. Install one (1) additional new hose clamp (screw worm gear type) next to original hose clamp.
Tightening torque: 28 lb-in (3.2 Nm).

4. Check ATF and top off with MERCON(R) V as needed to bring ATF to recommended level.

5. Verify repair.
