BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE OR STUCK ON HIGH

FORD:
2008 Escape Hybrid, Escape, F-Super Duty

MERCURY:
2008 Mariner Hybrid, Mariner

ISSUE
Some 2008 F-Super Duty vehicles built before 12/14/2007, Escape, Mariner, Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid vehicles built before 12/17/2007 and equipped with electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) may exhibit an inoperative blower motor or a blower motor that may also shift to and remain at high, low or off speed. Cycling the ignition may return normal operation. The concern may also occur when using the electrical power point.

ACTION
Replace the Blower Motor Speed Control per Workshop Manual, Section 412-01.

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
2008 Tribute Hybrid vehicles built before 12/17/2007

DESCRIPTION
Some Tribute Hybrid vehicles built before 12/17/2007 and equipped with electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) may exhibit an inoperative blower motor or a blower motor that may also shift to and remain at high, low or off speed. Cycling the ignition may return normal operation. The concern may also occur when using the electrical power point.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.

2. Replace the Blower Motor Control (resistor) with a modified one.
a. Lower the glove compartment.

b. Disconnect the blower motor control connector (1).
c. Remove fasteners (2) attaching blower motor control to HVAC assembly.
d. Remove the blower motor control (3).
e. To install, reverse removal procedure.

3. Verify repair.
