Hey guys. New here and have a few questions. I have a 2008 XLT Escape and I just got the Alpine iXA-w407 for my birthday. Now I need to get a dash kit to install it. I know Metra and Scosche both make ones to fit. I was wondering how good they look in the end. I am picky about how the new unit will fit. Does anyone have reviews about the dash kit they used? What do you like/not like? Pictures would also be a great help. Thanks. :)

I'd also like to add that it might be a good idea to pick up the wiring harness with the special relay in it for a proper 12v turn-on signal. I skipped this and used a different 12v+ switched signal and it sometimes doesn't turn off immediately (as this car has a "Retained Accessory Power" setup...which sucks for installers.

If you want help developing your system beyond a head unit, consult me if you wish and I'll be happy to help make a high sound quality system. In that regard I know this car inside and out.

I thought with the piano black being a Ford OEM part the opening would be larger than the standard double din? If I needed to order from Ford would I be left with a large gap or is there something that could cover the gap? Thanks for the help. I want to figure out all the details before starting anything. It is just I want the finish product to look great and not like it is aftermarket.

If you go with the OEM Ford factory nav bezel, you'll need to pick up an install kit for, in my case, an 04 F150. That kit comes with the adapter that will fit around a standard double DIN HU to fill the Ford opening. And yes, a harness kit is a MUST. Also consider the SWI PAK module to get your steering wheel controls back if you have them. I almost forgot how much I missed them in my F150.

Wondered if anyone could elaborate on this.

I picked up a Metra and am seriously unimpressed with it.

Can't make it out in the photos but the fit is lackluster and the finish is so thinly applied that you can see the black plastic showing through. It's scratches far to easily. I worry that the Schosche kit won't be much better.

I'd like something a little more upscale and in silver to match the stock interior.

Considering going with OEM if it is available in silver.

Any direction is appreciated.
