I have a 2008 escape.

I just got a used pioneer avic d3 unit from my friend and id like to install it myself. Seems to be pretty straight forward, i dont mind splicing my cables to install. But i been reading about this "rap" feature and have no idea if i need this. I would really like to save some cash because the adapter with the "rap" feature costs $50. I got the standard stock 6 cd changer, nothing special, no sync, etc.

So please give me some imput on what am i getting myself into. Thanks.

You could slice of the harness, but everyone recommended to get the harness and after reading more i'm glad I did. Plus, when you buy the metra or pac kit they give you the VSS (for GPS) and Reverse (for a rearview cam) signals right at the harness. You never know how you will feel in the future and having an intact harness would be nice if you trade it in or have some warranty problems.

Btw, good luck with the AVIC-D3. I had that unit before my kenwood and I liked it alot. I actually have a sirius tuner for it if your looking.
