Wondering if anyone has done this as I am very serious about trying to have it done. I have seen it done on some 2WD's but not any AWD's. I was thinking of emulating the ML55 AMG dual exhaust look.

When I meet with the guys from Hearthrob here in Minnesota, I will see if they can do a Land Rover style exhaust (dual, subtle) or if they can somehow get an Escape to sound like an Infiniti.

So I'm at my girlfriend's... Heartthrob is between the cities and the gf's... so I paid a visit.

They looked at my rig and said they can't do anything, but here's why.

A couple years ago, they did a dual exhaust kit for someone's Suburban. The owner then went out and had an aftermarket trailer hitch installed, and it pushed the spare tire against the exhaust. Then, one day not long after the second install, on the highway, the spare tire caught fire and the SUV burned to the ground.

Heartthrob, despite being able to prove no liability, was held responsible. Their insurance paid for the SUV and told the company: "no more dual exhausts on SUVs."

They said it would be tough on the Escape already. It can be done with some sacrifice to ground clearance or by just removing the spare tire, but I am sorta wary of doing that, so it might just be a standard single-out exhaust job in the end. Would rather spend $400-$500 at a local shop than get Magnaflow from eBay.

Cheers.

I wanted duals but as soon as the E was on the lift I saw there wasnt a chance and so said the exhaust guy. Went with the single 2.25" Magnaflow Ill get a sample as soon as I can get a quiet garage( probably wont happen)

Probably the only time a 2wd will triumph over a 4wd. I say Double Dog Dare them to do it. Then they have to, it's the rules. I have nothing useful to add to this conversation. :bag:

On a different note, does anyone know just how different the undercarriage is between the body styles? There have been a few first gen AWD/4x4 Escapes that have been able to do this.

True, stike one for the 2wd, the major change was the spare tire location change.

They will gladly refer me to a local shop who can pursue the dual exhaust project. The Heartthrob guy suggested a split right behind the suspension and then a pipe running perpendicular to the suspension, killing maybe two or three inches of rear clearance around the axles, and then going dual from there. The pipe would run about two to three inches away from the spare tire. That sounded complicated. I might need to attach a drawing.

Not really. I didn't change anything but take the stock muffler off, and removed the resonator. All the piping is stock so not real gains to be had. All my gains are physcological.
Nice sound!! :thumb: :thumb:

I believe i might do something similar, since i was looking forward for a magnaflow, however the shipping costs make this option not viable.

just my thoughts, if you run a over sized tire the spare is kind of useless, wouldnt it harm the 4 wheel drive system

Wrong thread but anyhow depends on how much bigger the wheel size is. Post new thread for question
