DOWNSHIFT HESITATION DURING LOW SPEED
MANEUVERS (BUILT BEFORE 12/19/2008)

FORD:
2009 Escape

MERCURY:
2009 Mariner

This article supersedes TSB 09-3-2 to update the IDS version of software required.

ISSUE
Some 2009 Escape/Mariner (excludes Hybrid) vehicles built prior to 12/19/2008, and equipped with an Automatic Transmission, may exhibit a downshift hesitation during a Change of Mind event (Throttle Tip-In/Tip-Out) 3-4-2 downshift maneuver at vehicle speeds between 20-40 mph. There is a new calibration that will improve the transmission downshift maneuver under these conditions.

ACTION
Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 59.8 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2009.1 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.

NOTE
THIS NEW CALIBRATION WAS IMPLEMENTED IN PRODUCTION ON 12/19/2008 FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR ESCAPE/MARINER AND DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY VEHICLE BUILT ON/AFTER 12/19/2008.

WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage
IMPORTANT: Warranty coverage limits/policies are not altered by a TSB. Warranty coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part.
