Looking to upgrade receiver from stock - am very happy with current audio quality - just want apple carplay compatibility.

Anything to be aware off before I go ahead with the below - and thanks in advance for any help

Crutchfield tell me that I will retain all existing features with the iDATAlink module

Also told I will not have to replace the existing rear view camera.....

Their kits are usually on point as long as you select the right way yours is equipped. I am sure you select Hybrid, biggest difference is the Hybrid isn't available with Premium Audio without having navigation (and if you do, you will lose the power flow display).

I am guessing you picked the most expensive complete install set? There are multiple ways to go, at different price points.

Thanks for the reply - yeah i opted for them to do the wiring ready kit - all in its 600ish delivered - i'm okay with paying a little extra here for conevneince - i'll pull the unit when i replace the car in a few years and just install this head unit in my fzj80 which needs an upgrade.

The hybrid came with the nav system so it has the premium audio correct? I gave them all this info.

I thoguht I might get the power flow but not a big deal if i lose this info - very rarely use it...

Yup, navigation is the 7 speaker premium setup with the sub.

I don't think that you will get the power flow view, but I might be proven wrong.

so working on this upgrade as we speak - have everything working - steering wheel control, sounds great, installed aftermarket microphone etc etc (except rear view camera - cant get that to work - that's one for crutchfield tomorrow) but I'm struggling to understand what exactly step 2 is - they want me to take the red/pink wire - cut open the harness on the sync module side and find the blue orange wire to make a connection. I have a picture of the only looking junction connector i can see below - bit hesitant to start pulling wires apart - what does this function give me?

From the installation instructions it appears this is to do with voice control? Wonder if this would let me use the OEM microphone.....?

With the OEM Sync voice control is a good way to select which input (either USB or Bluetooth), but with an aftermarket head unit, I don't think it would be of much use. With SYNC 1 I use it to pause and resume play (it forwards it on to Android Auto), and sometimes understands me better than the phone.
