I've been trying to learn what the sound system options were but have only found Premium Sound with no specs or anything.

QUESTION 1: How to determine what system my 2010 XLT has?

Then, if i don't have PS,
QUESTION 2: What would be involved to pull a PS system from junkyard and install?

QUESTION 3: Is a junkyard PS install worth doing?

NOTE: I do not have the NAV screen.

2010 XLT standard has the low end 4 speaker single CD MP3 capable with an aux input jack with audio controls on the steering wheel.

Available premium sound is 7 speakers including the sub in the side of the cargo area.

The Limited (if you are looking at junk yards) is standard 6 speakers (no sub), SYNC. Moon and tune package is 7 speaker premium and sunroof. Navigation is 7 speaker with subwoofer and the touchscreen/hard drive for 10gb of music).

I personally do not think that all the wiring required to put in a premium sound and sync is worth it, I would probably go with an aftermarket head unit with a sub and maybe component speakers, tweeters up high on the door.

Thanks for the info!

AUX INPUT: I need to find that. Mine does not have USB or SYNC or Navigation.

I'm all about doing stuff w/OE parts. Some of the premium systems like Bose, JBL, Infinity can be pretty decent. However it is sort of clear we're not talking that with the Escape.

OK, so for Prem Sound:
  • sub and amplifier: is this amp for the whole system or just the sub?
  • improved door speakers
  • are there any other changes? (like the Head unit? or ???)
  • I am Not interested in SYNC - do I have to install SYNC for Prem Sound to work?

Upull and Pay cheapness is... well, let's just say I want to take advantage of it (like finding a hatch and LR door in UA Black!)

Thanks again for the tips.

Aux in should be pretty easy to find, lower right of the center stack in front of the shifter.

Found a Premium Sound in a 2008 Mercury Mariner Premier at the local Upull & Pay. It's the first one I've seen and am "compelled" to "rescue" the system from The Crusher which happens pretty quickly at UP&P.

REMOVAL QUESTIONS:
  • Radio Head Unit: is it different and should be taken?
  • Are the door speakers different and should be taken?
  • Is the wiring harness "stand alone" and not integrated into the main vehicle harness? - can I remove the Premium Sound harness? (if not, then conversion would be folly except perhaps for adding the sub if that could only be done.)
I could cut the loom connectors and wire a new harness but if I'd be rewiring all the doors, that is just too much work - even replacing all the door speakers puts a kibosh on this idea.

So has anyone ever researched this junk yard upgrade?

EDIT: Found this Crutchfield link on upgrading Gen 2. (they also mentioned the Mazda Tribute is also the same vehicle along with the Mercury Mariner of course.

UPDATE: Pulled entire 2008 Mariner Premier system: radio & sub-harness, 4 door speakers, sub assembly and sub trim panel.

The sub harness had a run that was not present on a youtube radio conversion. This run was along the LH side of the console to a large connector w/11 pins.

What could it be: sound system head amp? parking assist module?

I really need to find wiring diagrams for the 08 and my 10 to see what I'm dealing with. I can check wire colors too
