Hi, I have an escape 2010 xlt, catalytic converter was stolen (cut using electric saw) while parked infront of a store.
Since it was just smogged last month and wont be due for a smog test for two years Im thinking of installing a pipe and not spend hours and money looking for a replacement since mileage of vehichle is over 160k miles. If you get what I mean, Do you gentlemen know what kind and sizes do I need to put in action my idea? Or is it a stupid idea that I should not even dare think of doing? lol. Thank you for your advices and sermons, What ever it is, I will appreciate it.

Hi Bev, Welcome to the city. Sorry it is unfortunate circumstances that brought you here.

I understand your plight, but there are sensors installed that tell your vehicle how to run. I would think that if you had the sensor(s) installed into your piece of pipe(minor fabrication), they would still do the job needed. I would suspect with the muffler still in place you would get enough back pressure for your engine(necessary)

Did they unscrew the sensors from the cat, or do you have wires dangling? I am guessing they were cut - meaning you would need new electrical plugs and sensors for the straight pipe.

you would probably have to Have a mom and pop shop to get them to weld in a straight line pipe in place of a cat. Corporate places wouldn't touch it.

I have seen repair kits that clamp on, even ones that are flexible/expandable for different lengths. you would just have to know your exhaust pipe OD.

not exactly sure what you mean mileage/life wise, but if the car has been taken care of, you are likely only half life.
I would try to source one out of a junkyard if you replace it, that way you get the sensors/plugs you need with it

I don't know what your deductible is, but I would suggest talking to your insurance agent. My sister had hers replaced through insurance.
250 deductible

Welcome to the City Bev!!! Sorry you had this happen to you.

Do you live in a location that requires an annual emissions inspection? If you do, this could be an issue.

In addition to insurance, have you contacted law enforcement?

Not to bring more bad news to the situation, but you may need a PCM also. If they cut the oxygen sensor wires, the wires may be all shorted together. If the wires are indeed shorted together, the 12v heater circuit will take out the low voltage signal circuit. I've seen this before, and it happens more often that not. Just trying to prepare you added problems.

Thank you for all your replies Gentemen, I took your hidden advice ( to ditch my plan and have it replace with a new one, lol) I ordered a replacement of the stolen part, an exact fit they said at NAPA auto shop for less than $600, I will have installed next upon arrival. Again, thank you for the reply Gentlemen. I really appreciate it.
