I just bot a 2010 from original owner that is in really nice shape except for localized rust at rear wheel openings and the bottom of the liftgate/hatch which is massive.

Deal included another complete hatch which is near perfect which is not the same regarding electrical connectors and where the exterior release is located (higher up) and that it also has a window release function (the 2010 is keyfob only)

Owner said it is a 2009 hatch. I'm not so sure since 08-12 use the same wiper motor.

So I'm wondering if I can use any of this spare hatch?
What year range might this spare hatch be?
And if unusable, what year hatches are a direct replacement?

Also, if the issue with the spare hatch is only the wiring connectors, could I splice the 2010 connectors onto the spare hatch? It would be nice if I could "upgrade" to having the window release of the spare hatch. I doubt this will be possible but who knows...

Thank so much
Tom

PS. Since I just got this and my first Escape, there will be more posts coming (!)

2008s and possibly some 2009s came with a hatch WITHOUT a cut out at the bottom, with the release buttons up high on the license plate garnish. On the later models there's a cut out towards the bottom with the hatch release button

It's hard to see but the early white hatch has the high "cutout" (you can't really see it but the latch is just above the license plate while my 2010 has the latch/cutout at the bottom.

I think that really doesn't matter because if you look at the edge of the hatch at the bottom of the glass, the white one has a crease while the black does not - so the white will not match the body contour.

I suppose I have to get another hatch if I want to replace. So that means I'll be selling off the white hatch. Would be nice to know what I'm selling (!) (Do they still put the VIN on the "trunk lid"? If there was a VIN I would know the year of the white hatch.) It is a nice rust free North Carolina hatch. (I'm 45 min east of Pittsburgh PA)

That is a first gen (2001-2007) liftgate.

There should be an engineering number some place, that would help determine the year/range/generation it is for.

It's rust free from NC so maybe I'll be able to sell locally. Shipping? LMAO! (Although I did get a part far away for a Geo Metro (!) because some other collector was traveling between. Maybe me and someone else will get lucky with this lid.

bangster: Thanks for the info. might try to find that engineering number...
