2010 Hybrid parts not available

Have found my 2010 Escape Hybrid very useful! However, now Ford is unable to replace a part, an automatic transmission shifter cable which is specific to the hybrid, a longer length. The Park position does not work-- the vehicle rolls and so the parking brake must always be engaged. I usually do that anyway so the vehicle is driveable. Additionally, the shifter movement feels soft. Ford and the dealer say parts for this vehicle are no longer being made and a search online found no availability elsewhere. I asked if they would buy-back the vehicle and was informed that it was not a requirement to do so under our state lemon law, so no they wouldn't. My only option seems to be to trade it in, as I wouldn't feel comfortable selling it myself. But the hybrid SUVs are costly as new cars and availability of used ones is very limited! Grrrrrrrr!

Welcome to the city, Lizzy.
First thing I would look into is whether or not the shifter cable is adjustable. Based on the images on the Internet, it may be.
Do you know what your part number is?
My first search on the Internet came up with several… You can also probably get one from your local salvage yard for very cheap.

you should probably get yourself a club to stick on the steering wheel… I am sure you cannot remove the key without it being in park.
