I very recently bought a 2011 Escape XLT, V6 AWD, and it has just under 1,500 miles.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, both TCS lights came on and stayed on. Referencing my owners manual, it said to take it in for service immediatly, which i did at the earliest opportunity...last night. Got a call this morning saying that the Restraint Control Module failed. The dealership had to order the part, so i wont get my Escape back until tomorrow.

I didn't get the chance to speak to a service tech, so what i am hoping to find out is:
1) What exaclty is the Restraint Control Modual?
2) What does it do?
3) Is this a common thing to fail?

Thanks,
DW

The restraint control module is responsible for monitoring the safety sensors and restraint systems and determining how and when to deploy the airbags as well as the seat belt pretensioners.
