2012 Ford Escape Humming/Buzzing Noise around the back (when idle)

Hi there,

I have a concern with my 2012 Ford Escape. There's a strange humming noise coming from the back of the vehicle. It's more noticeable when I'm inside, and it becomes even more prominent when I'm near the gas tank.

The noise resembles that of a small electrical motor (possibly the fuel pump?). Thankfully, the car is running smoothly with no error codes. Could this be caused by the purge valve?

I'd really appreciate your assistance with this matter!

Thank you!

Do you hear it when you're in ON mode but not quite to ignition? The fuel pump always primes in ON mode before you bump it into ignition mode. ON mode will be after accessory mode and the mode where the transmission can be shifted out of park, and the dashboard becomes a Christmas tree. If so, it's probably the fuel pump. Doesn't necessarily mean it's in a failing state... yet. Hope this helps you with your diagnosis.

anyone please… Indeed!
have you used the 'community search' at the top of the page you're looking at?

what you got going on is not hard to diagnose, or repair

if you hear the sound with the ignition on, but not the engine… pull some fuses and see which one kills the noise.

I don't know why people ask the same questions over and over.

follow your ears, Axtenar!
don't replace a part until it fails, Axtenar, unless you can identify the source of the strange noise.

I understand what you said, the noise only notable after engine is ON. I do hear the fuel pump noise during priming stage in ACC mode.

While I did search before, most of the posts I found were unrelated to my issue. My problem specifically occurs during idle, which seems to be unique.

I don't see the harm in enriching the content of the fourm 😄😄🤓🤓
