This is our second Escape, bought new in 2017, now with 88,000 miles. For the last 30,000 miles, when cruising in top gear and heading up slight grade, transmission stutters and has occasionally exhibited a fairly violent downshift. Giving the car a little bit of gas evokes a smooth downshift to a lower gear. About to take it into the Ford dealer for a transmission flush and a third change of trans fluid. Any suggestions?

Sounds more like an engine misfire than a transmission thing. The rough downshift could be a by product of the load not being as high and finally able to rev high enough to need to downshift.

Wow, 3 fluid changes in half the time than the suggested drain interval. I did do a regular drain and refill on mine at 60,000, and would have done another at 100,000 if I still had it (wrecked at 95,000 miles), but I did the same with my 2015 Fusion, and will do it again this weekend. It suffers from the low fluid temp 2-3 harsh shift, it usually goes away when warm.
