Hi,

I purchased this past summer a 2019 Ford Escape used. I began to notice that when I try to go into the liftgate and shut it, it seems to shut but the back trunk does not lock unless you go and open the drivers door where you hear a small noise and then the headlights will finally go off and you can lock the car with the key fob. Is that normal or is this something I should take into the dealership to be looked at. It's super annoying to have to do every single time I need to get into the trunk for something.

TIA!

So it has the power lift gate, and when you press any method for it to close, it doesn't close far enough to latch?

I wasn't happy with the fitment of the liftgate on my 2017, one side is further out than the other, the dealer said it was within spec, they tried adjusting the rubber stoppers but that made it not always latch.

It closes but I don't think it latches/lock if that makes any sense which is why you can't lock the car without opening up the drivers door to have the liftgate finally latch to either the lock the car by the door or car key fob.

Welcome to the city 2019 Ford, please come up with a better handle ( :
While the door is automatic closing, have you tried pushing for a little assist at latching point? I have seen things like carpet, or dog blankets interfere with full closing of the hatch.

try just pushing on it a little as it comes to latch point first.
Normally if the automatic hatch detects interference, it will let out warning tones and raise the hatch again
