hi guys newbie here..

i know most of you guys here recommend 255x45 on 20" rims..however those tires are not available so i ended up getting 275x40. I just want to know from you guys if I made the wrong move and should have waited a couple of days to get the recommended size?

From what I see the ones I have are slightly bigger compared to 255's so I want to know what would be the effect on the car in terms of parts like axle, wheel bearings, etc..

will it shorten the lifespan of the parts? what about my fuel consumption?

I have no recommendation on tires as of yet. Ean (my truck) will be getting new tires in January.

I went through wheel bearings (front) and as far as I know thats a normal wear part on the escapes anyways, larger wheels might speed the wear process up a bit though... Fuel consumption, not sure. I haven't had any other problems related to the wheels/tires.

what does that + approx 31"? My mech said that 31 will be okay but anything larger will add extra wear on the gearing and these Esacapes are $$ to change the gearing out. I wouldn't go any larger. Also, your speedo may be off by a few MPH.

this site says that if you go over 3% diameter of the original tire, you might end up facing brake failure. but personally, i think it depends on your driving habit.

Your post has the % of the speedometer being too slow, so if you want to go 50 according to your speedo, you are actually going slightly more than that. Try to find one of those speed detector things the police put up to verify, or use a GPS, those tell you your speed.
I know my speedometer is off by quite a bit... 55 km/h when the speedo says im going 50 km/h.

31's wouldnt fit without a lift kit anyways on the escape as far as I can tell... on the last post it says that my total diameter is 29.74 inches, and even that rubs so....

31" has a slight rub, but depending on what your going to use it for there is no sense in trimming the wheel well in the rear part of the fender well unless you tend to off-road it regularly. Also the mechanic who helps me is a professional off-road/rock crawler like Lord SUV, and Jants says wheel rub is not as big a deal as people make it out to be because eventually it will wear a pattern in the tire.
I currently ride 30" and have a 1.25" coil lift in the front and have plenty of room. I think it would work fine w/o the lift. I see lots of "E" with 30" tires that are daily drivers...keep us all posted and best of luck with whatever you choose to do.....
