I may be ordering a 2010 Escape, but even if it works perfectly, I probably won't order it myself. I try to avoid any kind of parallel parking, because I've seen people do things in parallel parking spots that would make me have a cow if my car was one of their bump-it-to-check-the-distance victims.

But for $395 as a 2010 Escape option, that's a bargain if you do a lot of parallel parking.

I parallel park quite often but still don't see the point of this park assist option.
It doesn't require a lot of effort for me to spin the wheel right then spin the wheel left.
If I didn't feel I was competant enough to maneuver my vehicle properly I don't know that I would trust a computer to do it for me.
How does this work if there is a collision? "Honestly officer, the truck did this on it's own. Not my fault!"
If there is any one feature that Ford adds to my next vehicle, I hope it's one that gives me more control not less.
Don't mean to rant, just my 2 cents worth.

You control the gas and brake. So if there is a collision, it is your fault. Just because the car is controlling the steering doesn't mean you can take a nap and wake up when the car is parked. You still have the ability to override all the controls.

I don't know how it works, but we do have electric steering assist and brakes (?). Why not for $395. Even my wife could park the car then... :hyst:

It's pretty cheap, that's why I got it. Also, I am not good at parallel parking so I let my wife do it. I know, I know.

Parallel parking is a formula for driving your vehicle. It's easy if you know the formula and practice it. I could drive and parallel park army trucks in the cities of Europe using the same formula. :thumb:

If your wife can do it, what the heck. That's your formula!
