I've got an amp and a 10" sub that i'm wanting to put in. I'll be putting the amp under the passenger seat. I know there are (costly) custom kits for the escape and I know there are boxes I could buy and just throw in the back. What I want to do is build something into (or out of) either of the side panels in the back. I've gone to pull-a-part and already found a left side panel that I could mangle (experiment with). Has anyone done something like this? Does anyone have any advice?

TL;DR:
I want to install a 10" sub in the rear area without it taking up any storage space, need tips..

I think I know what you want. You want it go in the reat hatch fender area.?.? You can approach this 2 ways you can go fiberglass a mold in the fender area or build into the spare tire area. Both ways can be cheap and time consuming. On fiberglass forms/ molds, I am far from an expert on this but what your asking for, this is the best solution for the fender area. You can find fiberglass how to's all over the web. Or the other is building into the spare tire compartment follow the link CLICK HERE You dont have to do exactly what is done here but you can do another variation. Good Luck and lets us know what your next step is.

lol, yeah... thanks for making it clearer... i am trying to put it in the fender area... I'd rather not get rid of the spare tire. I'll check out some ideas for the fiberglass. I figured I'd be going that way anyway. Now I suppose I just need to figure out the design, space and how i'm going to match the color of the interior gray.

any other tips? TIA

Im actually working on a similiar mod. I plan on putting two 12" alpines in the back one on each side and build a custom sidewall where they will hide behind. Im currently looking for a junk interior panel to expirement with to base it off of to make it look as close to stock as possible.

k, me and the guy who is going to help out got together tonite to figure out what all I need to get to get this done and a basic idea of how we want to do it... I have a few questions for anyone who has played with fiberglass:

I've found the fiberglass cloth and resin at local autoparts stores. Is there a way to color the resin? I am trying to get it to match (or be close enough to fade) to the interior gray plastic color.

I am wanting to build the fiberglass structure onto the existing plastic body panel. What is the best way of making sure the fiberglass adheres to the plastic? I don't plan on building the fiberglass enclosure separately, I plan on building it onto the plastic panel.

TIA, all...

I would guess you could pour paint into the mix of fiber and miz it well (dont recommend). Also you could paint it after the mold has set. Also if you want to adhere it to the exsisting panel then use epoxy glue.
