I have the X-plan discount, and am planning to buy a new Escape for the wife soon. Has anyone been able to get a better price than X-plan? I have 5 ford dealers near my home, and am considering trying to weasel a deal better than x-plan from whoever could beat the price. Anyone been successful with this? I don't know how much wiggle room there is, since x-plan is a pretty good deal. But money is tight these days, so I figure I should try to get the best deal I can.

You should try to get a low deal before mentioning the x-plan. Usually once a dealer knows you're eligible, they won't go lower than that.

It's worth a try. There is another thread about the D-Plan:

Thing about these plans is that sometimes you can get a better deal without one. Go figure. Don't be bashful about asking for a lower price or traveling about checking with other dealers. We got our Tribute on a much better deal (saving thousands) at a Mazda house. It is just down the street from the Mercury dealer, and also Ford dealer that we have done business with for years and dozens of cars and trucks.

Is X-Plan the same as D-Plan? I'm assuming it is. I got a better deal on a 09 XLT with Sun & Sync and Leather Comfort, 4 Cylinder, FWD. Best price from the dealer was 20,800 and with D-Plan it was 19,900 including Ford rebates. We thought that was pretty good considering the MSRP was 25,500.

I dunno, sounds pretty good. I paid $17K even for our 08 I-Sport Tribute. It's kinda like a cross between the base and XLT Escape. It has some things of the XLT, but not all. No leather or Sun and Sync. It does have auto, tint some interior package and a couple other add ons. Sticker was $23,900. I suppose the difference is the annual price jump and the leather. My wife wanted leather, I didn't. We got a rebate (I think $2K) and a service policy thrown into the mix.

It also depends on the dealer. I shopped around alot before doing the Mazda. It was just way better than the Ford or Mercury dealers for the $.
