I have noticed that the black trim on the outside of the drivers side window has started to disintegrate as well as pull up and away from the door. There are 2 pieces - one that has a felt appearance and the larger rubber strip.

The felt piece I have noticed has fallen off in little bits while the large rubber piece has been lifting up. I really noticed it the last time I washed it. I didn't know if anyone else has experienced this and/or if anyone knows the part number. I am going to call the dealer and let them fix it, but wanted to know if others have it as well.

Some pics:

You can see the rubber bending up:

The rubber is also getting narrower:

The felt part you can see the pieces that have come off. Also a good representation on how high the seal has come up:

I have the same issue, but I would have to guess that even a new one in the same amount o time would do the same thing.

I think you should tell ford about that. The 1st body style has the same or similar peice and my 2004 is growing older and has not done this. Maybe the attachment points have come undone.

I am stopping by the dealer tonight to let them take a look. If they have the part, I will schedule a drop off for replacement. If not then they can order it in and I will drop off. Not sure if a new one will be any better. This one lasted a year. So I guess I can get 4 more of them for free for my 5 year bumper-to-bumper coverage!

That should not be happening (obviously)... What I should write is that our Escape is not experiencing the same failure as you are... Let us know what the dealer say's in terms of repair.

[notes another thing to keep an eye out for on the Escape]

Our 08 Tribbie is fine. No issues with the molding. Sorry to see this on your machine. Must be some defect in that peice of trim.

Strange, I'm getting the streaking (which is a TSB, but I'm ignoring it)... but not this. I'll have to keep my eyes open.

My 2010 XLT has the same problem, both front window seals are starting to lift up in the middle. And I noticed 2 long scratches on the passenger side window, hard to tell if it's on the outside of the glass or on the inside, on the window tinting. The scratches just happened recently and it looks like the glass is scraping against something when the window is being lowered and raised. I wonder if the scratches are related to the molding starting to warp?

I checked closer; the scratches are definitely on the outside of the glass, so the glass has started rubbing against something when I open and close the passenger window. I'm wondering if something like some debris got stuck in between the warping seal and the glass. As you can see in the pic, there are several scratches on the glass. The seal is just starting to lift slightly on the passenger side, on the driver's side it's a lot worse.

Give it a good, hands-on wash. I notice that my streaks go away after a good wash of the windows, etc. Make sure to run the windows up and down before/while you are drying. Even though that streaks water into the door, I find that it cleans the seal a little bit.
