Mr. Jpark, do you have section 412.01 of the Workshop Manual that you could post up for me. I think my "crazy motor" sounds are in fact from the Blend door actuator after seeing the TSB (09-2-3) and realizing that I'm having some temp issues once the inside warms up. It sends cold air to my side, while sending warm to the passenger. I'd like to try and check out this TSB on my own before bringing in. Thanks.

JPARK, where are you.....? I'm all set to do something here, just wanna see if it's worth bringing to the dealer or not. I've located one of the actuators, and need to no if there is a second. Also still want to see any manual pics showing the removal of. Thanx in advance. Anyone know is The Man is on vacation?

Sorry about that. The board is getting so large lately that when I look at recent posts, they get drowned out by new ones pretty fast.

I won't be able to look this up until tomorrow morning, but I'll have it for you then.

Thanx Jp, but I think I could use some more. What I'm not seeing is this "Blend Door". Here's the link that I'm evaluating: http://www.escape-city.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=4461

Your posts seem to point to other acuators that I hope I never have to touch. Apparently there are two Temperature Blend door actuators. I think I've located one on lower left portion of the pass compartment, not sure of the other. Let me know what else you can dig up.

I'm going through this excercise to see if I were to bring to dealer for repair, that they don't have to rip the dash apart as I have custom wiring throughout that I'd rather dissamble myself. Particularly a switchbox in the glovebox for my FD lights and such.

I really appreciate the help. Let me know if you need additional info. Is there any way to get a copy of the manual on CD/DVD?

JP, cancel my last request. I just signed up with ALLDATA and got everything that I needed. If only I can find a way to print the whole section in one shot (not as a webpage). Got the info though and think I may just swap the required unit myself as the part only appears to cost like $30. We shall see. I'll save my dealer trip for the clicking chrome clad TSB and let them replace the wheels for me.

Blend Door Actuator.....$20
10 minutes of labor......$0
Not having to bring to dealer one day, pickup and return when part arrives......PRICELESS

So did it myself and all seems well. Thank God it was the lower (LH) blend door and not the upper (RH) which requires access through the Air Bag compartment.

Onwards and forward....ANyone needing help with this in the future feel free to contact me.

Well I helped my dad replace the RH blend door actuator today. It's mounted on top of the heater box which makes it a lot of fun to get to. We ended up removing the glove box (3 screws) and the air bag (2 bolts and some clips). Then we had to remove 4 screws from the hvac ducting to get it to flex out of the way enough to reach the actuator. One screw is on the cross bar, the 2nd is in the top left corner of the air bag opening, the 3rd is behind the radio assembly, and the 4th is up behind the far right dash vent. I recommend a 1/4" drive thumb driver to get the 2 screws out of the actuator. Something similar to this:

Overall it's not that bad of a job. It just takes a little patience. And since the part was so cheap, we went ahead and replaced the LH actuator while we had it all apart.

I hope this helps if anyone else has problems with their RH Blend Door Actuator.

P.S. This is a great message board! I can guarantee that if I owned an Escape I would be a frequent visitor. :)

I have a 09 escape w/ manual AC. I can hear this annoying clicking sound when I leave the temperature dial in between the max heat and max cool. I assume it's the blend door actuator problem based on the information I can found on the web. I'm wondering if you masters here can give me some instructions on how to replace the actuator. Thank you very much!
