I may have posted this yesterday in the wrong place...sorry.
Could someone tell me how the rear bumper cover attaches to the side of the car (2009 Escape).
I got hit lightly on the drivers rear corner. I used a heat gun and brought the shape back ....more or less. I havent taken the cover off. The side seems to be detached....any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom:

I think you may need a new bumper bar bracket reinforcement. Not sure if it came loose or broke off when it got hit, but that's most likely the culprit. That is the part that holds your bumper cover in place on the side. It's a common part and should be about $20 give or take.

Mystery solved.
I loosened some of the fasteners and pulled back the bumper cover. There are 2 orange coloured "snap in" fasteners that hold the side of the cover to the side of the body (one under the light bucket and one closer to the wheel well. They were rather distorted being plastic, so I will be replacing them in hopes of getting a tighter fit.
