Well, who would have thought that a tiny, non significant country could have brought Britain to it's knees, not once, but twice in the last year......
Firstly, the Icelandic Banks crashed, taking many British authorities and companies for £1000,00's, which they have yet to recover from the Icelandic Government.
Then yesterday, they had a bit of an explosion in a hill, the resultant ash cloud has grounded ALL aircraft over here for just over a day now, with no real end in sight..
Result for me, as the airport is closed, so I have been given time off work :yahoo: :yahoo:
So thanks, Iceland, and keep on blowing up your hills......
I've been reading about it over the past day, small world to hear from someone affected by it.
Funny thing is I use BBC for my news, it comes with FireFox and I got used to it and like it, so oddly even here in the states I'm reading British news all the time.
Yep, the BBC is probably the most viewed news channel in the world, nice to know that the British tv licence payer (aka me!) is helping to fund a service that you like
As for the ash, well it's actually now affecting us with fallout, as the Maverick is now covered in the stuff, and our sunsets are a little strange....
There is speculation that another volcano in Iceland may erupt, hmm, this could go on for a while......
It's very strange though, not seeing or hearing any aircraft in the skies, not even 9/11 affected air travel here as much as this ash cloud has....
It looks like the airlines are getting tired of sitting on the ground, they're doing staging flights for when they start back up and are reporting no problems. Better safe then sorry but still.....
Yep, was told that the airport would be open at 7am tomorrow, for flights over Northern England and Scotland, but have just been called to say forget that, as the volcano has just started up again, the airport might be open later on tomorrow afternoon now......
