Cannot enter car with fob, message " Ford KeyFree Key not inside car"

Hi there - I'm having a real issue with my 2014 Escape Titanium 2.0 T. The other morning about 0630 my neighbour said the car was honking and lights flashing. About 3 hours later I could not get into it with the for or start it. My son was able to find info on web saying to hold key on steering column to start and it worked. I called CAA and when they jumped it later it wouldn't start unless I held the key there.

I could drive it ok but the alarm goes off after I'm in it and it's hard to stop. The doors beep as well as other random beeps but no flashing when I drive. I just went shopping and it took along time to start but finally did.

When I use the key fob on the steering column it usually starts right away indicating that the battery should be fine.

This started yesterday and I can't get into the dealer for another week. Does anyone have any suggestions? It appear it might be the battery but it starts right up with key on steering column. Will not start if I push start though.

Thank you so much for reading and for any suggestions.

welcome to the city, RK.
I have seen 'new' bad batteries in fobs… Did you go to your local key and lock shop? They test on site.
typically holding the fob to a designated spot is what you do when the fob battery dies.

question one, have you looked in your owners manual, regarding the fob issue?
I am guessing if you are seeing a message, a code reader may be able to clear that at your local auto parts store for free, and the issue may dissolve.

can you lock, and unlock your car with the fob… Does the trunk release/remote start work, if equipped?

I have read elsewhere that if you use the secret key in the fob to unlock the door, the alarm will turn off/disable

if the alarm at night was a one time occurrence, you may have had someone set it off… Or a bear… Depending on where you live

afterthought… When was the last time your main 12 V battery was replaced. It can be tested for free at your local auto parts store as well.
How old is the vehicle's 12 volt battery? Have an auto parts store check out the battery and charging system.

We think alike:)
Thank you for your thoughts. I put brand new batteries in both fobs and tried them and neither worked. Then I went and bought more new batteries just in case.

I read the book for the anti theft as the tow truck driver felt that might of been the issue. Car is in an underground parking area and there has been a break in last year.

The battery was replaced about 4-5 years ago so perhaps that is it except that when I used the key bypass and put the fob on the side of the steering column it starts right up.....except that last time ant it took quite a few tries before it would work. I'm not going to use it till I can get in the shop.

I dont want to drive it anywhere and get stranded...except at the dealers and they can fix it there no matter what the prob is.

I though it might be that I was still locked out somehow but I've followed protocol and it does make a difference. Just seems odd that the battery works though and the car starts right up.

Thank you you for your suggestions.

4-5 years is about the useful life of a battery. A bad battery will cause the electrical system to some odd things. Even through the battery has enough power to crank the engine, the battery could still have a bad cell.
UPDATE: New battery installed and problem is still there. I can't get the car into the dealer with the fob but I can with the door code. Frustrating !!
Just replaced the battery and that didn't help. I have an appt at the dealer in 3 weeks....long wait here. I can use the door code to get in and not have the horn go off but must use the fob on the right hand side of the steering column to start it... lots of bypass videos online and it works great. I'll repost when the issue is fixed.
