Imho the cat back will probably only net an interesting exhaust note. I think the cats are probably more restrictive than anything the muffler could do for the exhaust. Never the less. Let's see, it could. It did change the melody of the exhaust! ;-)

08 and later Mariner have a cut out in the bumper cover for the exhaust tip. So, it would appear to be a different tailpipe and tip, not so sure that anything else is different.

I test drove a Mariner back to back with a Tribute and the exhaust did not sound any different, at least on the inside of the truck. I never noticed the tip on the Mariner pipe till after I bought the Tribute! I assume the tip is only cosmetics at work.
