So this has been happening since I owned the car. My temperature selector in my 04 Escape binds when I bring it over from hot to cold. It has a lot of tension. I took a look at the cable that runs to the air box under the dashboard and it hooks over to the control. The control on the airbox door has springs on it. Is there something that I can change or adjust to make this dial move easier?

I know this sounds silly, but mine does the same thing, but only when I have the fan set at a high setting (3 or 4). However, the temperature dial turns much easier when the fan is set a lower setting (1 or 2). Not sure if this helps, but thought I'd share.

Not that I know of... My dials are stiff too. Especially the temp dial. I broke it a while back but it was replaced under warranty. I learned then that I just need to be careful turning them...

So When i come over from hot to cold the dial binds at the 9o'clock area. Even when the fan is off the thing binds a little. did they fix this problem in later years?

I actually know how to fix this, but dont know if the parts would be available from another car. We would need to get some longer cables. The cables that connect to the knob go across to the right then hook up and back to the left in a sharp U shape. This causes undue pressure on the knob. I sprayed silcone spray on the moving parts behind the glove box. I also tied the cables into a position that allows the dial to move a little more freely.
