I installed a Pioneer DEH-P3100UB this weekend. I'm using the stock speakers and no amp at this point, but the difference in sound is still incredible. The best thing about this is that I can just plug directly into my iPod and I'm good to go: charges the battery and allows me access to my playlists.

I'm impressed with the pioneer so far, and the price was great. Installation was a relative snap with some splicing and a few color-matching issues, but it all came out well.

I'll have pics of the actual install later on tonight.

UPDATE: Here's Cognito's dash:

My GPS is a Mio Moov S401: a very capable and cool little device that can be hacked to run basic Windows CE apps (which I've done).

Some things to do still:

1. Find a way to hide the USB cord. This is pretty important as it's pretty awful looking.
2. Obviously have to get some better speakers and perhaps an amplifier. Any suggestions?
3. Put the remote audio controls on the steering wheel.

I'll post more pics as it happens.

That part is my world.

Take a peek at my threads/posts as well as a many others on this forum on this matter, as there are some important things to know about door sealing, deadening, and component selection... and it has already been covered in excellent detail.

Will do. I've read through the projects you link to in your sig, and I'm definitely impressed. I'm more interested in just upgrading the OEM speakers, and am not sure I'll put in a subwoofer and whatnot. We'll see, though. With the new baby, I'm more interested in spending money on safety items -- shocks, springs, etc. -- first.

nice stereo, one thing i do to avoid usb cords and such is to use a flash drive instead of my ipod. i have two flash drives one for older music and one for newer, each has about a thousand songs, put the cd player on shuffle and your good to go.
