2012 Ford Escape with Sync; original audio system. The compass display now reads "--" all the time. In Setup, the compass zone is "--" and cannot be changed. Compass calibration thinks it has finished immediately and has no effect. What should I check? Does the compass have its own fuse? What else? Where is the sensor located?

I'm not sure it's a blown fuse because the compass went out for a day or so last week, then resumed working, and now has gone out again. Loose connection to the sensor?

I would agree with you that it is a loose connection if it went off and then came back on for a while.

Can anybody tell me where the compass sensor is so I know where to look for loose connections?

I believe it is in the satellite radio antenna if you have that option or in the rear view mirror otherwise.

I have satellite radio. Nonetheless, I jiggled the wires to the rear-view mirror and it has resumed working. I can't prove that this is what fixed it -- more jiggling of the same wires does not have any effect on it.

according to my 2009 manual (which is similar to 2012) the compass is integrated into the rear view mirror. There is one electrical connector that feeds the mirror

So,,, does this mean the entire mirror should be replaced? I have the - - on my display, all the other display lights are working but that one.... I have jiggled the connection,, even un-plugged it and put it back on... no change.
