Hey. I just went to have my 2001 Escape v6 (2WD) inspected and failed with a 0304 code. Apparently #4 Cylinder is misfiring - which would explain the check engine light. I have changed the plugs and still have the misfire so my next step will be to replace the coil pack.

I have looked around the web to find the layout of the cylinders but there is a lot of confusion due to the engine being sideways in the engine bay. Additionally some people think the layout is 1,3,5 on one side and 2,4,6 on the opposite side. Still others think it is 1,2,3 and 4,5,6. Since the engine is sideways, there is no left and right, so how do I determine the which side is which?

One description of the cylinder layout that 'sounds' accurate is as follows:
While standing in front of the vehicle, with the hood open, the cylinders across the front by the radiator, from your left to right, (passenger's side to driver's side) are 4,5,6. On the back of the engine nearest the firewall, the cylinders from your left to right are 1,2,3.
Can anybody verify this or tell me the correct configuration if this is wrong?
