Post your dealership or independent mechanic experiences and reviews. Be sure to indicate whether it was a sales, parts, or service experience, and the general location for other members in your area.

Scarborough, Ontario
Date: June 1999 & August 2002
Department: Sales
Rating: Excellent 5/5
-Unfortunately, this dealership has merged and changed locations so I cannot speak for its current state. We first bought our 1999 Escort there, and the sales experience was pressure-free. Other than a suggestion of rust-proofing for Canadian winters, there was no insistance on adding "extras" to the vehicle. We liked the sales guy so much that we went straight to him for our Escape.

- I had my battery junction box replaced there after the car would not start. The service advisor was helpful in a technical sense (we discussed several options including what was involved in doing the repair myself), but would not make any accomodations for me even though I was just two weeks out of warranty coverage. The tech's work was questionable - the junction box replacement went fine and there are no electrical gremlins to speak of. However, my car came with a "stealth" engine immobilizer separate to the PATS system; this was rendered inoperable after the replacement. I feel that if you take pride in your work, you should put everything back the way you found it. The tech's work makes me feel as if he was acting as a service manual robot and just doing what Ford asked of him. Not unreasonable, but I feel that he should have gone that extra mile.

- The department manager there is great. She went above and beyond on three separate issues - battery replacement without a receipt, looking up several brake pad's manufacturer information after I mentioned off-hand that I was curious, and going through several quotes on their Mitchell database for me knowing that it was not going to be a sale - and was friendly enough that I went there about twice a week.

- We got winter tires for the MDX here. My first warning sign should have been when I had to teach the service writer how to use their own computer system to find the tire size I wanted. The tire tech proceeded to install the tires with improperly placed wheel weights (two weight clusters counterbalancing each other, a big no-no), and did not match the tire to the wheel so a large amount of weights were required. I did not notice this until after I got home, and I didn't bother going back. I will fix it myself this summer using a manual tire changer and balancing compound. I would give this store at least three years to allow some new faces to take over.

- I wanted to remove my clip-on wheel weights and replace them with the stick-on type. I went in to get the tires rebalanced, and they spent about half an hour on one tire that just would not balance. They finally dismounted it on my suggestion and found a huge amount of water inside (my theory is that Canadian Tire gave me one tire that was sitting outside and did not clean out the snow before mounting it). After finding out that the stick-on weights would not clear my calipers, they then redid all the tires with clip-on weights at no extra charge. Most importantly, they used a torque wrench and torqued with the wheels off the ground! Just for that they are at the top of my list when I am in the city.

- Our Escort's HVAC system failed while I was out of town. My grandparents took the vehicle to our local Canadian Tire for a diagnosis, which came back as a bad blower motor. They called me for my thoughts, and I said to hold off on repairs until I could diagnose myself - I told them where to find my 12 V heater. I got back, tested the blower motor wiring harness, and found no voltage across the leads. A simple five minute test with a voltmeter would have ruled out the blower motor as faulty. The culprit ended up being a rusted blower motor resistor, which I wire-brushed and soldered back together. If the diagnosis was performed correctly, it would have been a $100 job. Instead, they quoted us $290 to do the blower motor and would have charged the $100 on top of that after they found the real problem.

- I bought my 1997 Ranger, 1999 Explorer, 2005 Escape, and 2007 Edge from here. All four sales were painless, easy transactions, without the "I'll need to take this offer to the manager" stuff. We tried to buy a Fusion from them in February, and the only reason we didn't was that they didn't have a car we liked in stock. I'd buy from them again any time.

- We bought our 2008 Fusion here with no hassle. I made an appointment to visit them, and on the way to another dealership, I called to cancel the appointment, thinking I already had the best deal. They asked what I was looking for, and I told them. They said that they had a Fusion in stock, equipped the way I wanted it, but it also had Sync, Sirius, the Sport Appearance package, leather, Ambient Lighting Package, and that they'd give it to me for over $20 less per month than the other offer. I asked them if I could have two hours to think about it, and they agreed. My dealer couldn't come close to matching that offer, so we went back to West-Herr, signed the paperwork, and drove it away only an hour later. There was no back-and-forth and no pressure. I'd buy from them again, too.

- My 2002 Explorer's "Service Engine Soon" light went on, and the engine began to stumble at part-throttle. It wasn't dangerous, just annoying. I drove to this dealership, found that they had drive-up service, and within 10 minutes, they had replaced the DPFE valve, reset the computer, and tested it for any other codes. They also put clear vinyl on the seats before anyone sat in it. Totally happy.

We have bought 4 vehicles from our favorite salesman, Randy McDonald, he is simply the BEST. The service has been good. I could highly recommend that anyone in the area looking for a Ford give Randy a call.

Hey, this post is a great idea!
But, I think it deserves it's own section somewhere, so it doesn't eventually get lost under other posts. That way everyone can refer back to it easily and know which dealers to go to.

If it gets enough response I guess we can sticky it. I am reluctant to sticky everything useful right away because then the new posts get buried down the page.

- Got an alignment done for the Escort after replacing a tie-rod end. I believe Rob runs this place all by his lonesome, so on snowstorm days he will be busy until noon just shovelling the property. This is your typical small-town auto shop - knows his cars and knows his people. I am very DIY so he probably will not know me too well, but he was on a first-name basis with the majority of customers. The Escort now drives straight as an arrow and hardly responds to road crown. He also called several tow truck buddies to try and source a specialized chain attachment for me. Rob gets bonus points for recognizing a good recovery strap (Escort got stuck that day) and commenting on it.

Description: While I was certainly impressed with the newly remodeled showroom, I ended up talking to the internet sales guy, the greenest guy in the place. I knew exactly what I was after, and I really only wanted to see the specific vehicle and take it for a spin. I was into the 2007 Ford Escape, Limited, Black, All leather and options w/ 13500 mi. I test drove the vehicle and came back a few days later to have another look, over lunch on a weekday. My only hang-up was that Finance took an extra 45 minutes to get to me before I could get out of there with keys... I had a great car purchasing experience. Which is solely based on the fact that I knew what I was after and the vehicle fit the description. In no way did the salesman "sell" it to me, it was used "Ford Certified" and owned by a mechanic within the exact dealership.

Maintenance on the vehicle (Oil Changes) have been performed by me, which I am majorly impressed at the location of the oil filter.

-Just went in for my ABS connector recall. Friendly service, none of that "Toronto attitude". They don't mind at all when customers go into the service bay, which is a requirement for me for anything but emergency service. When I mentioned running Dexron VI to my service advisor, he didn't automatically say "That's not a Ford recommended product, we will need to flush it out with Mercon V for a bajillion dollars" - he just told me that he had never heard of anyone doing that before. I didn't get my mechanic's name, but she is the only female mechanic there. She took the time to diagnose my steering clunk problem, then look up labour times for me, even though I did not bring the car in for that and was not paying for it. She even greased up the ABS connector when she finished with the recall - I don't remember reading that step in the recall service instructions, so that was a great thing to do. I have most of my other connectors greased up, but the ABS connector was one that I skipped.

There isn't a lot to say because the recall was so simple, but the service I got and the cleanliness of the service bay deserves a 5/5 rating.

Sales 5/5: Good sales team, I worked with Internet sales team, Corey Ray/David Lewald. Had several Escapes in stock, but I was deadset on the Charcoal Black interior. I originally went in looing for XLT but being set on the Charcoal I wound up getting the Limited. They had two limiteds with same equipment....the one I got and another exact same equipment but Ingot Silver Metallic and Charcoal. My G/F has a Silver/Black Honda Accord so I got Steel Blue so we didnt clash at dinner parties.....LOL!!! Team even offered to ferry one up from Richmond....which I think was what happened because the Steel Blue had VA inspection and Richmond window sticker.

I havent needed service yet, but within 24 hours of purchase a customer relations rep called to contact me and set up my 6k service appointment.

Shults Ford
Perry Highway
Wexford, PA

Last week I was in there to get a part... and I saw the board for the SYNC clinics and I was explained that they are every Tuesday but the person in charge of them was not working that day. I called back when he was there and asked if I could attend. I specifically told them to avoid confusion that I didnt purchase from them but I was a Ford Customer. They said it was fine, and would be happy to help me. I explained that I was in a rush and didnt get the setup at selling dealer but it was no fault of theirs.

The salesman was helping me set up and about 45 minutes into the process which we were making good progress by the way. The sales manager came by and said that the clinic was for their customers and basically to stop helping me and do nothing since I was the only one for the SYNC workshop. I followed him to his office and explained that I was a FORD customer and there was nothing to indicate that it was for their customers only. Again not only his "I am not their dealers customer" tone but the very condecending attitude and be-littling of both me and his salesman. I asked him how he knew I wasnt his customer, and what proof did he have that I didnt buy the Escape there. He didnt answer but I am figuring the Maryland plates might have been a clue.

I explained to him that I was a FORD customer and if that was his attitude that he wouldnt have to worry about me being a customer at that dealership. I will definitely get the word out about them and their management techniques and I will also make notes in my phone call to Ford Corporate Tomorrow.

Alternate title could be knucklehead Sales Manager.

Wow MDScape,I know exactly where that dealer is (I pass it on the way to that huge car show further north in Wexford at the church).

When I bought my 08 Limited in August,Schultz came to mind, but I live in the city, and sort of wanted a dealer that was closer for service calls/repairs/etc. I ended up going to Sturman-Larkin in West Mifflin PA. Saw the car on an internet ad,had everything that I wanted in it (well,almost-despite all my research prior to purchase,I didn't realize that SYNC wasn't really an option till 2009,grr!),and went out. Traded in my Bronco, got a little less than I wanted for it,but I wanted to get rid of it pretty bad,and with all the stuff that was either failing or on the verge of failing, I could live with that. But the dealer...I didn't haggle with them,as the price was what I expected to pay anyway, the only thing they tried to upsell me on was some paint protection, which I declined. They replaced all 3 rear headrests with brand new ones,as the previous lessee forgot to include them when he returned it,as well as new carpet mats from a 2011,as it only had the winter mats in it,and they didn't have any other 2008 mats around. Only had it in for service once (the infamous rear hatch rattle),and they did it the same day I called. Will see what the routine service experience is like sometime next year, but so far,I have been very pleased with them. 5/5

I didnt buy from there but I have visited a S/L a few times to check out inventory....Taurus at that time. Although I didnt buy I would give them about a 5/5 for courtesy, professionalism and respect. Salesman had a daughter in the Navy so we had a little common ground. God Forbid I ever need anything maintenance related while I am here but my primary maintenance for the PIT area is Moon Township, 2nd is Crivelli and 3rd and 4th would be Wolf/Windz and S/L....I am going distance primarily but I also take other consumers under advisement.
