to start off, New to the forums. i have been searching the forums for the problem i am haveing and couldnt find it. i cant be the only one with the motor problem. on my wifes escape xlt 3.0 duratech, the engine has detonation when accelorating and really bad when climbing a hill. this truck has been babied its whole 104,00 mile life and has never been beat on or for that fact never drove over 75-80 mph. i have always used motorcraft syn blend and change the oil every 2000-3000 mile . all other fluids have been flushed on schedule. i live in new england Ct. and weather can be bitter cold to very hot. noticed this problem more on hot days. if anyone has any solution to this problem, i thank you in advance.

I am not too familiar with the 3.0L but a couple recommendations:

1) Switch to a higher octane gas temporarily
2) Have a full fuel system cleaning done by the dealer to clear out carbon build up
If you are still having problems
3) Seafoam and then tune up time.

no i have never had a engine light trip on at all. yes the light does work when i turn the key on. gas milage also not so great. like 12mpg on highway. i am filling this truck up with gas every 2 days. i went to ford and told me to run the BG fuel kit threw the system, we'll see if that works

12MPG is way too low and indicates a problem. Do you smell gas? What is the idle like when just sitting stationary in park? Last tune up was done when?

Intake, Ignition and Exhaust are all suspect.

Check everything and think about a visit to the dealer

Could very well be a COP(s) dying. I had two go bad and wouldn't trip my CEL until I hit above 3000 rpm.
weird.. mine was the opposite. when mine died it gave me a misfire at startup. and the miss would go away above 2000rpm. i had to turn of my OD on the highway after work to keep the RPM's up lol.

I thought it was odd too. It refused to turn on until I really got on it. When it finally did turn on I replaced #4 and #5 and all has been well.

just a update, maybe shade some light on this, i have replaced the plugs, they looked a little on the lean side, i used the bg kit, put the 44k in the tank, and cleaned the throttle body. also filled it up with 93 octane. after a few miles, the truck runs great , no pinging or anything. the only thing is, i dont know if it got covered up with the high test gas or did the other stuff do the trick. i have not done the fuel system cleaner yet as i dont have the tool for it, i will be makeing one .
